We are the largest MVT Area both in the number of members and geographically and work hard to meet up with members. We are a very active area with several road runs and events during the year. We have regular meetings on the first Wednesday of every month, at the Wetherby Sports Association LS22 5FN and you are most welcome to join us.
Our biggest is probably our annual ‘Crank up’ , held in mid-April and usually in the centre of scenic and historic York. We also have a crank down, but this tends to move around; we usually try to cover two days with an overnight stay, sometime in September. Being God's own country we have a huge choice of where to hold it and many great roads and brilliant scenery.
Even the Christmas cold can’t keep us down and for over 15 years we have been having a ‘Christmas Cracker run’ sometime between Christmas and New Year. We have a run out and finish for Lunch and it is a great way of catching up with your pals and getting out into the fresh air, which sometimes can be very cold!
As a group we have in the past also had foreign trips to Normandy, Holland and the Belgian Winter rally, which has to be experienced - it's amazing!
I have been Area Secretary for over 20 years and have several members who have been great assistants., I couldn’t manage without them. When organising an event it is essential to have a good team behind you, to keep the fun flowing, and we have some good helpers that do that for sure.
As Area Secretary I try to encourage anybody who is interested in military vehicles to join us, you don’t need a military vehicle, just the enthusiasm for them! We also have in our membership lots of re-enactors who combine their love of all things militarily historical with their love of old military vehicles, don’t forget anything up to present day is acceptable it doesn’t have to be WWII we have many post war vehicles all of which get used regularly.
Because we have such a large area I keep in touch with all members via email, usually I send out at least one email a month which I call ‘monthly matters’ wherein I include event reports, upcoming and new events news, and entry details, interesting items that may affect you or your membership, and finally try to have a ‘fun/entertainment section’ with interesting articles, links or jokes.
If you want to be on my mailing list send me an email to [email protected] and I’ll make sure you are kept up to date with everything that is going on in the Yorkshire area.
