South East Midlands Area
Area Secretary: Neill Elliott - email: [email protected]
The South East Midlands Area (SEM) covers Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and parts of neighbouring counties and our area meetings are at 8pm on the first Thursday of the month (but not in January) at The Aviator, Sywell Aerodrome, near Northampton, NN6 0BN. Sometimes we have a speaker or a quiz or just run through recent events and shows and flag up future ones. There's a Christmas party and infamous quiz in December.
Our members have a range of vehicles from all eras, from bicycles to armoured cars, and love driving them and interacting with members of the public at shows, both near and far. Our season officially starts on Easter Saturday with the annual grand opening of Sywell Aviation Museum, which many of our members also support. We also support small local events, if we are able to, and have taken our vehicles to schools to add a bit of realism to the history curriculum! Our big show of the year is Operation Market Harborough, where SEM runs a hospitality tent for MVT members and traders.
We also organise several road runs, including Roger's Road Run in January, which has been on the calendar since the 1980s.
Our area was formed by Steve Gascoigne (now an MVT vice-president) in 1985 and our current secretary is Neill Elliott (email: [email protected]). We have our own Facebook page (MVT South East Midlands) and website (mvtsem.org.uk) where you will find reports and photos of events we've attended and a Diary Dates section. As well as the Facebook page and website, we keep in touch via an email alerts system, which members can join.
