PPLI Insurance - included in every UK membership
The MVT were the first group of military vehicle owners to include Personal Public Liability Insurance (PPLI) as part of every MVT membership. This ensures all our members benefit from the protection and peace of mind it affords.
With the increase of “no win, no fee” lawyers, we are more at risk of unwanted legal cases. There is a gap in most members’ insurance cover that puts them at risk of unexpected and potentially large legal fees and claims. Most mainstream motor insurance policies do not cover stationary vehicles at events. So should something happen, such as someone hurting themselves as a result of interacting with your exhibit, rightly or wrongly, you could be sued.
Increasingly, event organisers require proof of an exhibitor’s PPLI. Acquiring this cover as individuals is costly – up to £100 per year, but collectively we can offer a tailored policy that offers £5,000,000 PPLI cover in relation to exhibiting vehicles or equipment (in a military context) as part of our UK memberships. It does not cover selling of items, i.e. stallholding, or battle re-enactment.
What does it cover?
MVT Public Liability Insurance (PPLI) covers every valid, paid up member of the Trust (including life members) as long as they abide by the MVT Code of Conduct. This means that every event that a member attends where they display “in a military context“ some sort of exhibit (including home front), they will have public liability insurance cover.
The insurance is for the member not the vehicle, so if members are re-enacting or putting on a display of any military themed items, then members would be covered. There does not even need to be a vehicle present, providing the display is military themed.
The PPLI does not cover selling of items from your display, i.e. stallholding, or battle re-enactment. It also does not cover the use of unsheathed blades. It would also not cover you if you are taking part in a different organised group's activities.
PPLI has very strict regulations on the use of gazebos. As a result of this the MVT do not recommend members use gazebos.
