Our Members and their Vehicles
We keep our mechanical veterans alive….
Our members and their vehicles are at the heart of everything we do.
Since 1969, our members have restored and maintained thousands of ex-military vehicles ensuring their survival after they have reached the end of their useful lives with the Armed Forces. They include vehicles from all eras, from WW1 to the present day and they come in all shapes and sizes, from the folding bike to motorcycles, jeeps, landrovers, trucks and tanks. |
Many members exhibit their vehicles at shows and other events, to help educate the general public about the vehicles in their custody and how they and the men and women who drove and operated them have contributed to our rich military heritage. Our members attend such events up and down the country, throughout the year. Many also enjoy driving their vehicles, in parades, at rallies, on road runs or just to enjoy them. Over the years, our members have taken their vehicles abroad to attend anniversary events which commemorate the wartime events associated with their vehicles.
Throughout the year our members undertake school visits to inspire the next generation and it is a tradition and honour for many to take part in the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal to help them raise funds to support our Veterans. |
Increasingly, our members are also involved in the Living History scene. By dressing in period uniforms and adding artefacts to their displays they offer interactive presentations that give observers and participants a sense of stepping back in time and enhances the understanding of the role their vehicles and those that operated them, played in military history. Some vehicles are also used in battle re-enactments.
Our network of areas enables our members to provide an opportunity for like minded individuals to meet together and enjoy the hobby at a local level. If you want to know more about buying and owning a historic military vehicle speak to a member or go along to one of our area meetings, |
