Since taking on the role of MVT safety officer I have been working on keeping our hobby enjoyable by taking a common sense approach to achieving the requirements of the legislators, insurance companies and the public who impose standards that we have to achieve.

The first task was to review and update our Code of Conduct which we as members of the MVT agree to abide by. This was done and republished in April 2010, so please take 5 minutes to read and digest.

The next step was to attend events and discuss safety with organisers. I am encouraged that all knew their responsibilities and took them very seriously when organising an event. However, they faced difficulties and frustrations on how to exactly achieve it. To this end I have prepared using available information and guidance from other organisations and authorities an Event Safety Guide. This guide is a reference manual which offers guidance on the minimum requirements that should be achieved at an MVT organised event.

It also requires organiser to report back on how the event was managed and if any difficulties were encountered. This data will allow us to keep the document alive by updating it with useful information and focus on where our true risks are at events.

Please start to apply the Event Safety Guide and feel free to email or write with constructive comments on other things that you would like guidance on or sections you feel may be simplified as these will be captured for possible inclusion in later versions.

Like most Safety documents it is comprehensive and runs to 55 pages so please consider this before printing. MVT event safety guide

Now let us have an enjoyable and Safe Season.
