New regulations have been passed into French Law concerning visitors,as to their general conduct, wearing of uniforms and decorations with particular emphasis on re-enactors. It also covers the temporary importation of military vehicles, convoys, drivers and passengers
.
An Official Charter has been published for the French authorities by Normandie Memoire; this requires specific information being provided in advance to enable smooth entry into France and to show agreement with the Charter.
An organisation we were associated with in past tours, Liberation Task Force (LTF) has already been working on our, and on other groups, behalf to ease the flow between the various officials in France, including customs and gendarmerie etc.
Those of you booked on the official MVT Tour will be asked for more specific information very shortly and we will be issued with a blanket authorisation after we have supplied what is required to LTF.
Any other MVT group (or individual member) intending to travel to France next year may also be included on this blanket authorisation if details are supplied.
The information required is:
- The make, model and registration of the vehicle.
- The Full name and address of the driver, passport number and country of issue.
- The same information is required for all known passengers.
- Date, time, and point of entry, and of course of exit.
- There is a one off charge (of course) for the time and overheads for this information to be collated by LTF of £5 for every vehicle. Paid for at the time of application by cheque only, payable to ‘MVT TOURS’. The MVT will arrange payment in bulk by transfer in € euro’s.
- Application to be made by post only, receipts will only be issued if a SAE is included although acknowledgment will be given if a current email address is supplied.
It is worth noting that all tours to France for the last 20 years have had to supply some of the above information, in fact LTF played a great part in the success of the 60th Tour in helping with the red tape and security, and we contributed to their overheads then, when it was felt appropriate and of value.
The complete Charter (11 pages long) is available on this website as is the attached thoughts of LTF who have translated it for all to see.

This jacket must be worn before leaving the vehicle so that a warning triangle may be placed to warn other road users of a hazard.
Should the vehicle be fitted with warning flashers then these shoudl also be used.
The authorities in France are now enforcing this and all contraventions of this law will be met by a fine of up to 135 Euros! Passengers are also to wear these jackets when leaving the vehicle too and they could be fined up to 35 Euros as well if they are not wearing a suitable jacket..
The warning triangle needs to conform to EEC Standrads (E 27 R) and needs to be deployed 30 metres away from the vehicle. If the vehicle is by the side of the road on a bend then the triangle should be placed before the start of the bend.
